The HVT250A hydraulic power tong consists of three clamping cylinders forming the backup tong, three clamping cylinders and one torque cylinder forming the power tong, and a hydraulic system consisting of an electric motor (diesel engine)-powered high-pressure plunger pump, tubing, and quick-connect couplings. It is designed for rapid breakout of drill pipe.
